Yes, another use for the condom.

As I am researching marketing strategies of entering the UK clothing market - under the request (or semi-request) of my Vox neighbour Barbz I thought I'd post up a few sites that sell great Enviro Bags. You can still look good and save the environment at the same time. No harm in that - I mean with the amount of plastic bags we use, we may as well fork out a little cash to re-use some good cotton bags over and over again.
Do you know long does it take for a bag to decompose? According to an article by Slate, scientists wager it may take anywhere from 500 to 1,000 years. But since plastic grocery bags have only been around for 50 years, it's anyone's guess. They are the "mystery meat" of the landfill. All that plastic--not so fantastic.
So anyway, there are great companies out there that have set about to making and creating solutions to a growing problem. And of course, being gals - we may as well pick up the trend and do our part, little things count.
Today I got my own green bag from Sportsgirl
But, as many of you may not be from down here - there are some great companies online that you can buy bags off.
Aussie company Envirosax has finally opened an online store for the US market.

The Monochromatic Series is a solid option for guys or gals. No blaring store logos. Plus, each bag allegedly carries up to two standard bags of groceries (will report back after I test them). They come with their own compact pouch for storage in your glove compartment--an important feature for the absent-minded folks like me. Five bags in all for $35. They can also be bought separately.
ChipChop also has a range of funky bags you can grab online:
Although an Australian company Bagladies also have a nice softer range
The best is when you make your own. The artistic value and the fun you can have when making your own can be just as fun!
However, please don't take the trend too far. Designer Anya HindMarch created a storm when her design was worn by celebrities that it became SOLD OUT. Is that taking a trend too far? The idea is to save the environment not to look good!
Now, go out and reduce that plastic people!
Oh and just for interest value:
If about all the readers of Cosmopolitan Magazine (example) were to use Canvas instead of Plastic the Carbon Saving cost would be about 205 trips to London. Massive.
If every reader installed an efficient showerhead? Carbon Saving = 38, 954 Return trips to London
If every reader shut off all gadgets at the wall? Carbon Saving = 25, 704 Return trips to London
One more note: Always keep a shopping bag folded in your bag and a couple in the car guys! Remember to use them! USE THEM!!
